The sum of the values divided by the number of values--usually called the "average."
- Place in ascending order
- Add all of the numbers together
- Divide by the number of values to get the mean
Median
The median is the middle of a distribution: half the scores are above the median and half are below the median.
- Place in ascending order
- Remove the corner numbers, repeat this until left with one or two numbers
- If left with one number, then that number is the mode
- If left with two number, find their mean and the number you get is the mode
Mode
The most common number in a set of data. There can be multiple modes
- Place in ascending order
- Observe all the numbers, look for numbers that show up multiple time
- Whichever number(s) show up, those are the mode(s)
Range
The difference between the largest number to the smallest number in the data.
- Place in ascending order
- Find the smallest and the biggest number
- Subtract the smallest from the biggest number to get the range
