Mean
The sum of the values divided by the number of values--usually called the "average."
  • Place in ascending order
  • Add all of the numbers together
  • Divide by the number of values to get the mean

Median
The median is the middle of a distribution: half the scores are above the median and half are below the median.
  • Place in ascending order
  • Remove the corner numbers, repeat this until left with one or two numbers
  • If left with one number, then that number is the mode
  • If left with two number, find their mean and the number you get is the mode

Mode

The most common number in a set of data. There can be multiple modes
  • Place in ascending order
  • Observe all the numbers, look for numbers that show up multiple time
  • Whichever number(s) show up, those are the mode(s)

Range
The difference between the largest number to the smallest number in the data.
  • Place in ascending order
  • Find the smallest and the biggest number
  • Subtract the smallest from the biggest number to get the range
