Okay, so uhm. fractions are over, YES!!
So, now here's my last post about fractions.

How to subtract fractions

Subtracting fractions is easy.
Here's the first question :

6/12 - 3/4=

First we need to find what 12 and 4 goes into. We could multiply each other, and we get 48. We could use 48 but just 12 is more easier. We multiply 12 by 1 and 4 by 3. Those both equals to twelve. Then whatever we used to multiply the denominator we multiply it with the numerator. So, we multiply 6 by 1 and 3 by 3. Now, it's like this : 6/12 - 9/12=
Now, we solve it: 15/12. Here we have an improper fractions, we could make this into a mixed number by dividing 15 with 12. so it's: 1 3/12.

How to Add fractions


I'm going to explain three questions.


Number one is:


2/3 + 1/8

What you do here is you find the quotient of 3 x 8.


Then whatever my answer that becomes my denominator.

In this case, it's 24. So, your denominator will be 24. /24 + /24.
Now, it's time to look for the numerator. I will multiply the number 8 by 2 because 2 is the number I multiplied it with the number eight to get the 24 I wanted for the denominator.
I will do the same thing on the other side but different numbers because i used a different number to multiply it by 8 to get 24. So, the number is 3, then I would multiply it by 1 and the
quotient is 3.
All this becomes like this:
16/24 + 3/24
Since both denominators are the same, all I need to add is the numerator.
The answer is 19/24.

The next question will be a mixed number, it will explain and show how to add mixed numbers.

1 2/3 + 1 1/4=

If it's a mixed number then just add the whole number. So, here it's 2__.
Then we just solve the fractions, so it looks like this: 2/3 + 1/4=
We multiply both denominators and we get 12. Now, the denominator is 12. We multiply 2 by 4 and 1 by 3, the answer now is 8/12 + 3/12=.
We get 11/12. We put the 2, 2 11/12.

Multiplying Fractions

Fraction is very easy, you just multiply
both numbers in the numerator and multiply the numbers in the denominators.
So here, it's 4 multiply by 1 equals 4. Then 6 multiply by 2 equals 12. So, it's 4/12. We could simply it down to 1/3.










Multiplying mixed numbers

2 2/6 x 1/12













If we have a mixed number in our questions all we have to do is make it a improper fractions. To do that, we multiply our whole number to the denominator then add the numerator. Then we just solve, 14 by 1 and 6 by 12. The fraction comes as an improper then we just divide it. Then we get 2 1/4.

How to divide fractions







To divide we just have to do the reciprocal.

It shows clearly on the picture.


MIXED FRACTIONS






To divide mixed fractions we just make the mixed fractions to an improper fractions. Then we do the reciprocal.
If the numerator is larger than the denominator, we just divide the 9 into 20

Sentence:
15 scoops make ___ cake.
15 scoops make 6 2/3 cake.


















Problem 2

It was sunny for ___ hours that day.

It was sunny for 3 1/2 hours that day.

In skills we have to show how to multiply fractions

This is one way of doing it
(denominator x whole number + numerator)

for ex. 2 2/4 below is how you multiply it
(2 x 4) then add the numerator
(2 x 4 + 2)= 10

Here's another example
1 1/2
(1 x 2) then add the numerator
(1 x 2 + 1)= 3

they are:

Is 2/3 and 4/6 different or the same?how?
(Explain in two different ways)
Is 1/8 and 1/4 the same?
(Explain in two different ways)


1. Is 2/3 and 4/6 different or the same? how?

Both numbers are the same because if you convert them into a percentage they would be the same.
Like this:

2/3 = 66%



4/6= 66%

We could also convert them into decimal to prove that they are the same.

2/3= 0.66


4/6=0.66

By this it shows that they are the same.


2. Is 1/8 and 1/4 the same?

No, they're not.

1/8=0.125

1/4=0.25

By converting it by decimals it shows that it is not the same.

On Monday, I was 10 minutes late. So I came in knowing nothing, but I asked a couple of my fellow students and I think I know now.
So, when i came in Mr. Harbeck had a multiplication chart on the smart board.
Then he talked about perfect squares.

The multiplication chart should look like this:

Then he made perfect squares with them,
The squares are perfect because the number is whole, if it has a decimal then it wouldn't be.

Then the homework.
The homework was to make a perfect squares chart.

So yea lets get to it.


















The mans name is Phythagoras, he proved the Phythagorean Theorem. He was a vegan, I guess thats why he's smart. Anyways he was a philosopher or teacher, he's really into math. Some recall him as the father of math. He also discovered the circumference of the earth, he also found out us, earth orbits around the sun.







This is a right angle triangle. R.A.T. is a right angle triangle, a rat is 90 degree's. Q is known as theta and B down there is Beta, if you add up all of the angle's it has to equal 90 degrees. It doesnt matter how much each angle is, but it has to equal 90 degrees. The longest side of the triangle is called the Hypotenuse and is labeled C in the picture above. It has to be always labeled as C, while the other legs, Q and B it doesnt really matter how you order either one.




This is an image of the Phythagorean Theorem.

This is a square :D


The square has 4 equal side's that measures 90 degree each, so the all around measure of the square is 360 degrees. If you cut the square in half of the opposite sides, you will get 2 equal right angle triangles. The lines of symmetry are on each sides, these lines tell you if the lines are equal and its a square. If all of the sides are equal its a square, if its not then its probably a rectangle.

PAY IT FORWARD



During the winter break, there was three act of kindness I did. First, My whole family was at my house for Christmas, a lot of my baby cousins came. The adults were upstairs and the kids we're in the basement. I asked my uncle who was watching the kids, and he said no one . So, I volunteered to watch the kids while they were having fun. Before my uncle went home , he offered me money and I refused for him to give it to me. I just told him to pay it forward. Luckily he knew what it was, then he said he will.
Second, I checked my cabinet and it was full of clothes and I asked my mom if i could donate it to the Salvation Army, she said I could. Before I packed all the clothes i was gonna donate, I asked my little brother if he wants some of my old clothes and he did. I put half of the clothes from my cabinet in a bag and I gave the half to my little brother. Thirdly, of course I shovelled my own front yard and my cousins front yard. I just told my cousin to pay it forward.

Doing all these act of kindness really feels good. So, to all those people who didn't do it you should really do it. It really feels good. My parents were proud of me so your parents would probably be proud of you.

I didn't get all of this act of kindness in camera or video but trust me I did all these stuff.

Can one person make difference? YEAH. If one person tries to make a difference to another person and really works hard on it. Then that other person will be eager to to make a difference to another person and next thing you know all the people are paying it forward. So, PAY IT FORWARD.

one day I had 4 chocolate bars the brand was the chocolate mars I’m generous so I thought of sharing with my friend, I want us to have equal bars, at least that’s what I intend maybe I should share 4 into 2 equal groups it is just like the partitive division, one chocolate bar for me and one chocolate bar for you haring four into two equal groups is my decision GREAT!, equal chocolate bars for us two

Mrs. Hot: Hello Mr. Fire . How are you?

Mr. Fire: Hello Miss Hot. Well, I'm actually doing pretty good this year. I have a lot of crazy things happening.

Mrs. Hot:Oh. Well, we'll talk about it later. I heard you've been taking classes in mathematics. Tell me how is it?

Mr. Fire: It's actually been fun, I just started the lessons last Friday. Mr. Makutohomolo who's my math teacher , has been teaching me a lot of stuff I've never heard before and when he explained it i actually understand it.

Mrs. Hot:Well, I'm glad you understand it. Actually, Mr. Makutohomolo called earlier and he gave this show two questions for you to answer. Will it be okay if i ask u?

Mr. Fire: Wow. I think I can handle it sure u can ask.

Mrs. Hot: Okay. First question is n+3-5n+12. I looked at it earlier but then i couldn't find out the answers . It's too hard.

Mr. Fire: Well, this question is a combining like terms. This was the first lesson i learned from
Mr. Makutohomolo.

Mrs . Hot: So all we have to do is combine like terms.?

Mr. Fire: Yeah, that's it. But first, we have to group like terms.

Mrs. Hot: I think that's n-5n.

Mr. Fire: That's right . Now put the other numbers in that question.

Mrs. Hot: Okay, So it will be like n-5n+3+12. I think I can answer this. So the answer is -4n+15.

Mr. Fire: WOW That's right. Are you sure you haven't done this?

Mrs. Hot: Yea, I'm sure . But thanks to you I do now. There's another question Mr. Makutohomolo told me to ask you and explain it to me. The question is 2+4(3n+8).

Mr. Fire: This kind of question is about distributive property. This lesson was taught to me the second day of my classes with him. First, you have to multiply four by three n and by four by eight.

Mrs. Hot: I think that's 12n+32. Is that right?

Mr. Fire: Yeah. That is definitely right. Good Job. Now put the number 2 in it.

Mrs. Hot: So It will be like 12n+2+32. Now if i would answer this it will be 12n+34. Is that right?

Mr. Fire: Yeah. Good Job. Now you have something to tell your kids about distributive property and combining like terms.

Mrs. Hot: Well, thank you so much for coming here tonight and answer some questions. Maybe you can come back next time.

Mr. Fire: Sure, I would totally go back next time.

Multiplicative equation
I group them and got the answer of n=-2.

Division equation
I isolated the 2 by multiplying the n by 2. Then on the other side i multiplied 10 by 2. That gives me 20. So, the answer is n=20.



Additive equation
I added a -2 since it was +2 and then i did the same thing at the other side. The answer is n=2



subtractive equation
Here I isolate the -2 by adding a +2. Then on the other side I added +2. That all makes n=6

Today in class we talked about MORE MULTIPLYING INTEGERS. We looked over our multiplying integer quadrants. We went over the rules of multiplying. Like (when i multiply a negative integer and a positive integer the product is negative). Then after we looked over our multiplying quadrants , he told us to do 12 questions in page 5 on the green booklet. He also told us that we had to choose 4 questions that has a (-)(+) , (+)(-) , (-)(-) , (+)(-) , numbers in it then draw pictures. After that he asked us what will be the product when u multiply certain integers together.



IT LOOKS LIKE THIS:








For the questions on page 5, i chose number 5, 7, 8, and 11.


5) (6)(-2)=-12





7) (-5)(-4)=+20








8) (6)(9)=+54











11) -12(3)= -36







That's all we did in class today, i hope u learned something. I'm sorry if there's any mistakes.

Sean and his integer challenges



Once upon a time, a boy named Sean was sleeping. He woke up at his
house but no one was at home. He was so happy that he was finally
alone. There was a note and some money on the fridge that says
"here's money for food, buy something and we'll be back in a few days.
love mom". Sean took the money and put it in his pocket. He watched a
little bit of TV and played on the computer. He heard some noises and
he got scared. But it was just his stomach saying "FEED MEE!!". He
went out to buy some food. He went to a store called "Ugly store". He
bought some pizza sub and some burgers. Then as he came up to the
counter he saw a sign that says "answer a really hard math question
and you'll get a one week free grocery". The question was:
(+30)+(-30)+(+5)= . He asked himself what is the answer?






The next day his parents called him to check on him. They told Sean
that still don't know when they can go home. After he talked to his
parents he got hungry and he ate all his leftover from yesterday. After
he ate he fell asleep. After two hours he woke up. He called his friend
Kevin and he said to meet up at their school. They met up and greeted
each other, Kevin brought some shovels so they can go digging on the
sandbox. They were getting deeper and Sean hit a box, They pulled it
out and they tried to open it, but they couldn't. Then they saw an
instructions on the back of the box. It said "To open this box, you must
answer this integer question". Kevin read all the numbers and while he
was reading it out loud to Sean, Sean was recoding the numbers. The
numbers were: (+5)+(-5)+(-5)= . Kevin answered the question by using
the number lines. Then he typed the answers on the box, and it opened.
It had a lot of money in it.



After him and Kevin got the treasure, they split up the money they got.
Then Sean slept with his money so no one can take away from him.
When he woke up the next day , he was throwing all money in the air
and letting it fall down on him. "It feels good" he said. Then Sean was
bored s he built a lemonade stand. His friend Kevin came and wanted
to buy 2 lemonade drinks. A lemonade drink cost one dollar. Sean was
thinking if it cost one dollar then if Kevin wants two drinks it would be
two dollars. Kevin brought 10 dollars and he had to spend 2 dollars.
Anyways, how much is Kevin's change?.



The next day Sean was watching TV and then he fell asleep. He was making these faces and it looked like he was having a dream. When he woke up he called his girlfriend told her about his dream. Sean told her that it was scary and he was attacked by two girls that was wearing positive and negative costumes , but he was only chased by the two girls because they couldn't take off the costumes because they were cursed to wear it forever. The only way to get it off was to solve the problem that was on their back and it had to be solved by a guy. Sean tried to solve it and the problem was (-15)+(+15)= . Sean got the answer and then he yelled it out and the two girls were free and they kissed Sean then they started dating. Now Sean has 3 girlfriends because of his smartness.






Sean and his integer challenges PT. 2

It's been a week and still no sign of Sean's family. Sean was getting worried, he called the house that his family was staying in. Sean's mom answered, she said that it's taking them long because mom's parents are renovating their house so they had to help. Sean didn't worry anymore, then Sean got hungry again. While Sean was walking to the store a man walked up to him, the man was crying because he was abused by 4 big men. The four big men put handcuffs on him. To get it out was to solve the problem. The problem was (-20)-(-20)= . Sean got confused because it had a subtracting sign, Sean kept thinking and thinking and finally got. He remembered the stuff Mr. Coconut taught him about subtracting integers. Sean answered it and the man was free, the man gave him a coin that can grant one wish.







The next day Sean was bored, his parents are still not home. Sean was watching TV when the phone rang. He answered it and someone was talking to him in a creepy voice, Sean got scared. But it turned out to be his best friend Kevin, Sean got mad at him. Then there was another phone call, this time its in a out of breath voice and there was yelling and screaming and they were asking for help. A man answered it, the man said that he kidnapped Sean's family. They want a 2 million for ransom money, said no to them. Then the man threatened him, if he doesn't give the money then he would kill his family. Sean gives up and said the he would give it to them.Then Sean remembered that he had a coin that grants one wish. Sean wished that his family is back and not harmed.The coin went up in the said and popped out an integer questions: (-20)-(-20)+(+30)= . Sean was thinking that it's the same question but with an adding sign with it.Sean figured it out easily and got the wish.

Today in class Mr. Harbeck gave back our two test's. Then he told us to get out our measures of central tendency big sheet and we showed it to him for marks. We put our big sheet and the two test's in our math portfolio.




We spended playing nintendo ds for the rest of the class, but we only had two games. We played the game about the professor and mario kart ds which i borrowed from Casey. The people who didn't get to play the ds, just played the worlds hardest game.






Thats pretty much all we did in math class, and the next scribe is Tracey..

Mean
  • arrange the data into ascending order
  • add all the numbers, then divide the sum of all data by how many data there are
















Median

  • arrange the data into ascending order

  • then find the middle number

  • if there's two middle number, add it up and divide it by two

Mode

  • arrange the data into ascending order
  • then find the most occurring data

Range

  • The range is the result of subtracting the smallest number from the largest number.

  • To find the range all u need to do is arrange your numbers in ascending order and then subtrack the smalllest number from the largest number
