Hi everyone today I'm going to talk about the test I did Which I got 16.5 out of 20.
I'm going to talk about three question to explain how to do word problems using algebra.
The first one would be,
Suppose you have $40 and earn $7 per hour. How many hours must you work until you have $131?



















Mr. Piper's plumbing needed repairs. The plumber charged $98 for parts plus $45 per hour of labor. If the bill totaled $458, how many hour of labor wee required?



















Mo is thinking of a number. Eleven more than one third of the number is -1























(Sorry I forgot how to do number six but if you know how comment me so I can learn it. The question is: A rectangular garden plot is 8m longer than it's wide. Find the dimension of the garden plot if it has a perimeter of 36 m.)Please leave a comment........:]:):>

On January 23, 2009 , we had a quiz. We corrected our quiz in class.

Today I am doing a live post scribe. Today in math we are correcting our homework from yesterday. Our homework is the purple booklet pages 43 (all of it). Our homework today are pages 44 and 45. I will try to help you understand on how to solve algebra questions. I'm not going to solve all. I'll just solve some of it. I hope I could help you :D

P. 3N+8=20 1. copy out the question
-8 -8 2. add zero pairs
3N/3=12/3 3. next, you have to divide 3 to get rid of the multiplication,
N=4 then whatever you do to left side you must do it on the right side.
4. last copy the variable equals the answer

TO VERIFY:
3n+8=20 1. copy out the question
3(4)+8=20 2. substitute the number of the variable
12+8= 20 3. solve
20=20 4. balance





c. -5u+6=41
-6 -6
-5u/5= -35/5
(-1) -u=-7(-1)
u=7

1. write down the question
2. add zero pairs. Whatever you do on the left side you must do it on the
other side to balance it out
3. next you have to get rid of the multiplication, then whatever you do on
the left side you must do on the other side
4. when you have a negative variable you have to get rid of the negative
because there is no such thing as a negative variable.
To get rid of a negative multiply a negative (-1).
You multiply it where the variable isand whatever you do on
that side you must do on the other side.

TO VERIFY:
-5u+6=41
-5-(-7)+6=41
35+6= 41
41=41

1. copy out the question
2. when verifying a negative variable you must
add another negative and multiply it to get rid
of the negatives
3. then solve the question
4. last you have to balance out your answer

+9=+9
2d/2=-20/2
d= -10

2. add zero pairs
3. divide them to get rid of the multiplication
4. solve it

TO VERIFY:

2(-10)+(-9)=-29
-20+(-9)=-29

Now I know this is very late but I forgot ok? -_- well..im doing it now :) I'll be doing a scribe on my test corrections...
I did pretty well on this test and I'm happy with my score, but if I never made those small mistakes I could have made it better. I'll give you an example of ONE of the four mistakes I made.
I lost half a mark for 1, 2, 3, and 4 because i didn't verify....so VERIFY PEOPLE! Don't make the same mistake! xD Unless you already did! :P I'll show you Question 2. This was a very easy question but it wasn't perfect 'cause I didn't verify...

I was missing the same thing (not the same numbers of course) in 1, 3 and 4....moving on....
Question 5 I missed completely 'cause I wasn't listening in class or something....

On Question 9, again, I didn't verify correctly...*sigh*

My last correction on my test was on Question 13...didn't verify correctly again....

Hey guys well today Mr.H explained to us a project we have to do. This project is for Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. You have to make a two minute video about change. You can choose whatever you would like to see change in. It is due by April. So don't wait until the last minute use the two months you have! Choose a group by the end of this week. The limit of people per group is four. It is a competition so do a good job!

Sue: Okay well its two questions from my math homework. I think I know the answers but I'm not to sure if they are right.The first question is n+3-5n+12 the answer I got for it was -6n+15. Is that correct?
Jimmy: Actually Sue that is the wrong answer. I'll show you how to get the right one. Well first you have to group the alike terms. So it would look like this n-5n+3+12. Then what you want to do is figure it out so the simplification would be -4n+15.
Sue: Oh I see how you got that!
Sue: Now for the next question. 2 + 4(3n+8). I think the answer is 12n + 10. Now that must be right.
Jimmy: No I'm sorry Sue that isn't right. I'll explain it again. This is called distributive property. First you have to multiply 3n by 4 and then 8 by 4. That gives you 2+12n+32. Next you have to group the alike terms. So it would look like this 12n+32+2. Finally figure what every thing equals put together and the simplification would be 12n+34.

What I did first was I isolated the variable. I did this by dividing 3n by 3. To balance i had to do the same to the other side. That left me with n=2. The last step is to verify.

For this question I again started with the variable. I did this by subtracting five on both sides which also created balance. The answer i got was x=8. Then i ended with verifying.
