Pythagoras Thereom

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Pythagoras was a Greek man. Pythagoras believed that eating animal products was cannibalism because they might contain the souls of human ancestors. Pythagoras found the proof for the Pythagorean theorem. He discovered square roots by comparing square piles of rocks.

The picture and numbers on the post .

How are all of the pictures and vocabulary connected.
The hypotenuse is the longest side of a right triangle in the Pythagorean theorem. When you want to find out what the length of the hypotenuse is you just the length of the two legs A and B. Which explains the triangle picture. The actual Pythagorean theorem is A2+B2=C2 which explains that picture. Pythagoras was a Greek man known as the father of mathematics and geometry. which explains he word Greek.

I couldnt get the the squar root download thing so I just took a picture of my work i hope you can see it.

Well as you can kind of see I just did one side of the triangle and the its the same on the other side so I just double the answer 6 and i get an answer of 12 and the answer is 12 mm.

This diagram shows the game plans for a game designed by Harbeck Toys INC. The board is made up of a square and four identical right triangles.

If the central square has an area of 225 square centimeters what is the perimeter of the board game? First i labeled the picture
And that's how its done.

Pay It Forward.

For my act of kindness I thought of baby sitting my cousins but they where out. Then I was talking with my buddies on msn and we decided to give out cards saying happy new years and explaining pay it forward. our friend Amanda, who goes to a different school was there at the time and volunteered to participate. We made around 20-25 cards, which we enjoyed doing. We drew on the front of them and then wrote on the inside. Some of our drawings where very ... eye catching. We also handed out Mini candy canes but we forgot to take a picture of them.

Once we were finished we got a ride to the mall, but we only had 20 minutes before the mall was closing. The first time we handed one out it was rejected, but after everyone wanted one.It felt very nice when the people read the cards instead of throwing them out. By the time the mall was closed we had given out half of the cards we made, so we decided to put the rest in peoples mailboxes.

For my act of kindness I thought of volunteering at a care home, but that backfired, so I thought I should do something with a friend. So I called Jaymie and we came up with a lot of ideas, but only the one that was "do-able" was writing cards and handing the out to people. So we did that. We even got our friend Amanda, who goes to a different school to participate. We made around 20-25 cards, which we enjoyed doing. We drew on the front of them and then wrote on the inside.

[Those weren't even half ]

Once we were finished we got a ride to the mall, but we only had 20 minutes before the mall was closing. The first time we handed it one out it was rejected, but the second time the person accepted our card. It felt very nice when the people read the cards instead of throwing them out. By the time the mall was closed we had given out half of the cards we made, so we decided to put the rest in peoples mailboxes.

PART 1 Adding integers

Once there was a little girl named Abbie she was playing dress up when she found that she could not find her dress. Thats when she saw the muddy footprints trailing down the hall to the cookie jar and then outside she followed the footprints and came to an integer question posted on a post it.It said : " I have your dress answer these quetions and and I will give it back." Outraged she read the question.
what is (-3 ) + ( -7 ) = ? she thought and finally came up with the answer -10! she checked her work and found that she was right. At this rate I might get my dress by lunch time! she moved on.

She followed the footprints and found another post it.It said :"Answer this question and you might get you your dress by lunch time." Her tummy grumbled she hoped so. she read the question it said "I have 6 and i owe 3 how much do I have left?' she used her fingers hmmmmmm.... "You have 3 left!" yes correct again!

Her tummy grumbled again as she followed the footprints to another post it. On the post it said : Use the number line to answer this question -5 + 5=0
using the number line she started at -5 and went up 5 steps. "Thats a zero pair!"

She kept walking. another post it was stuck on the kitchen counter stuck next to... a chichen sandwich and... her dress! The post it said :"Wait! before you eat and get your dress you must answer one queston. Using these black and red checkers answer this question. what is 6 + -7 =
she rearanged the checkers and founf that the answer was.....-1!!

Finally! she gobbeled up her sandwich picked up her dress and ran to play dress up.

PART 2 Subtracting integers

The next day Abbie when to her fathers house. Her father looked a her report card and frowned "You did so well on adding." He said
"I had fun learning it." she replied then walked away to play extreme barbie. That night her father called her Mother . Her mother told her about the game she had made up for her.

He liked the idea.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The next day.

"My fairy princess doll! ... Where is it! its gone!" Then she say for the second time a set of foot prints leading out of the room this time she brought a peice of paper and pencil. She followed the foot prints yet again, To another peice of paper. It said:

Today we started subtracting with integers. He pointed out that you CAN'T subtract integers. That was the main idea he wanted us to remember.You have to ADD the opposite. It sounds confusing so I will explain.

Say you have this integer ----> ( -3 ) - (+3 ) = NO!
You have to change it if it has a subtraction sign in between two integers.
So you have this integer -----> (-3 ) - (+3) =
and you change it to this -----> (-3 ) + (-3 )=

I didn't do anything to the the first part of the integer question. For the middle if it is a negtive or a line eg. - you have to change it to the opposite which is a plus or + you also change the last part of the integer to its opposite in this case you would change the (+3) to a (-3). Ya followin' ?
You always change the the subtraction sign to a positive sign and always switch the second integer to its opposite.
He also reviewed on zero pairs. eg - O O O O O
O O O O O --> OOO
and you are left with 3 negatives which would be positive 3.

Mr.H give us some homework and i thought I would put the three that I chose on since I have no pictures because my computer sucks. You had to choose 3 of 45 questions to do with integer tiles. Here are the ones I chose.

6) (-4) - ( -6) =
(-4) + (+6 )= +2

----->OOOO
Zero pairs--->OOOO -->OO and you are left with positive 2.

18) (+3) - (-2) =
(+3) + (+ 2) =5

OOO + OO = OOOOO they are all positives yay!!

45) (-7 ) - (-9 ) =
(-7 ) + (+9) =

OOOOOOO
OOOOOOO---->OO and you are left with 2.

Ok thats the end of my scribe post for today I know I might not have covered everything, aaaaand I have a tone of grammar errors. anyway i choose Abbie A. to be the next scribe! <3

Integer Story

One day there was a little girl named Angie . She was playing Princess dress up, for the upcoming ball with her Prince Teddy Charming other dolly's and stuffed animals, when she noticed something odd. She was already in her princess shoes and tiara and her pink dress but where was Prince Teddy ! That when she noticed the dirty foot prints out of her room she followed then until she came across a piece of loose leaf that said :"If you ever want your Teddy back in one piece you must answer this question"

Under on the ground where checker peaces some black ones and red ones. On the loose leaf it said use the checkers too help you with this question.

(-6) + (+7) = ?

She used the pieces and came up with the answer of +1! She arranged the 7 black checkers under the 6 red checkers and came up with 6 zero pairs! with 1 left.

She followed the foot prints across the side walk, and found another loose leaf it said : " I till have Teddy! answer this question with a number line.

(+ 7) + (-8) = ?

She rememberd how to do a number line and drew one with side walk chalk. " up 7 steps from the 0 and then 8 steps back she ended up at the 1- . Got it! she was almost there.

She kept following the steps, and came to another note it said answer this one with i owe and i have she did not understand until she read the question it said " Lia got 5$ and spent 1$ on a gumball how much did she have left" OH! i have 5 take away 1 =3 I have 4 and owe 0 she wrote it on the side walk. and kept walking.

Yet another letter she found. It said "Teddy is still alive but if you want him back answer one question" how ever you want she chose standered because it was fastest. " What is (-5) + (+5) =? easy! that's a zero pair she wrote it on the side walk again and The she saw Teddy still in his tux sitting in the sand box. she heard her brother running back to the house. She finally went to the ball the end.

Measures of central Tendency

Add all the numbers together.Divide the sum of all data by the amount of numbers in the set.

1,2,3,4,4,5,6

1+2+3+4+4+5+6=25 25/7=3.57

The mean is 3.57.

Median-

Put the numbers in ascending order.Find the middle number, each number must have a pair except for the middle,unless there is two medians in which case you must add the two together and divide by two.

1,2,3,4,4,5,6

1,2,2,3,4,4,5,6 3+4=7 , 7/2=3.5

The meadian is 3.5

Mode-

The mode is the number that appears the most frequently in a set of data.There can be no mode.

1,2,3,4,5,5

1,2,3,4,5-no mode.

Range-

The largest number divided by the smallest number.
1,2,3,4,70 1-70=69

The range is 69.

This is my video explaining mean,meadian,mode and range.
